Direct Lateral Interbody Fusion-DLIF

A spinal surgery performed laterally (from the side). DLIF is a minimally invasive surgery designed to correct spinal instability caused by disc degeneration, injury and/or deformity. This procedure is designed to gain the surgeon access to the affected spinal area through the most direct means and involving the least amount of intervening tissue. This approach is noted to cause less disruption of tissue than alternative spinal corrective procedures. Once the degenerated disc is removed, the surgeon will supplement the spine with material supports. Hospital recovery time takes 2 to 5 days.
