Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion-ALIF

A spinal surgery performed from the anterior (front). This procedure involves removal of specified discs and replacement with metal supports. These supports are comprised of stainless steel and/or titanium rods and screws. It becomes necessary in patients experiencing chronic back and/or leg pain due to degenerating disc space. Since this procedure is performed from the front, the patient lies on their back as the surgeon achieves access to the affected spinal area via the abdomen. Once the degenerated disc is removed, the surgeon will supplement the spine with material supports. Hospital recovery time takes 2 to 5 days.
